On the night before his sacrificial death, Jesus lifted up his eyes to heaven, and he prayed to the Father. The High Prayer is a glorious prayer that gives us a clear glimpse into the heart of God for his people.

Jesus concludes the Upper Room Discourse by telling the disciples about the love of the Father and the peace of Jesus in a world full of tribulation. The disciples thought they had believed, but they still did not know Jesus Christ as the crucified and risen one.

Jesus told his disciples that in a little while they would not see him, but in a little while they would see him again. The disciples were confused about what Jesus meant, because they did not have the Holy Spirit to guide them in truth. So, Jesus gave them a parable to help them understand what would happen after the resurrection of Jesus. Because Jesus is alive, our sorrow is turned into joy.

Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to be the Helper and the Spirit of truth. The Holy Spirit did come into the world, and he is convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement. It is to our advantage that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, because he now dwells in all believers.

Jesus said greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. Jesus calls us his friends, and he commands us to love one another in the same way he has loved us. When we live this way for Jesus, we can expect hatred from the world.

In the upper room, Jesus told his disciples, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." He then promised that he would ask the Father to send another Helper. The Holy Spirit was sent to dwell within believers, teaching and reminding them of Jesus' words, and empowering them to love Jesus through joyful obedience. What Jesus commands, the Holy Spirit enables.

Jesus wanted to settle the disciples troubled hearts. Jesus said he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and that no one comes to the Father except through him. Jesus is the only way to heaven, and when we believe in Jesus we have the hope of eternal life.

At the Last Supper, Jesus revealed to his disciples that one of them would betray him. When they asked who it was, Jesus gave them a sign: he dipped a piece of bread and handed it to Judas, identifying Judas Iscariot, the Son of Simon, as the one who would betray Him.

Jesus gathered his disciples for one last meal before the cross. At the Last Supper, Jesus washed his disciple's feet to show them how they ought to serve one another. Jesus loved his own to the end, even when one of them would betray him.

Jesus said, "And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." When Jesus Christ died on a cross, he died for sinners. Whosoever believes that Jesus Christ died and rose again for the forgiveness of sin, will receive the gift of eternal life.

Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday as the crowd proclaimed him as King. Jesus is King, but not as the people supposed. Jesus chose a cross as his throne, thorns as his crown, and sacrifice as his mission.

Mary, the sister of Lazarus, who had been raised from the dead, showed her devotion to Jesus by pouring out an expensive ointment on the feet of Jesus, and wiped it with her hair.

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. This miracle teaches us to trust the sovereign Lord and to respond when he calls for us. Those who respond to Jesus when he calls, and believe in him, will receive eternal life.

Jesus received word that his good friend Lazarus was ill. Jesus waited to go see him, and he died. Jesus allowed this to happen, because he wanted to raise Lazarus from the dead for the glory of God.

Jesus said, "I am the door of the sheep" and "I am the good shepherd". It is through a relationship with Jesus Christ that we have salvation, and Jesus promises abundant life to those who receive salvation.

Jesus reveals himself as the light of the world by healing a man born blind. This sign shows us that true spiritual sight comes by believing in Jesus Christ, but those who refuse to believe in Jesus remain spiritually blind.

Jesus said, "Before Abraham was, I am." Jesus said this to make a claim about his divine nature. Jesus is God.
