Our Story

Calvary Chapel Palos Verdes is part of a global community of churches rooted in the Calvary Chapel movement, which began in Southern California in 1965. This movement played a key role in The Jesus Movement and established a legacy of Jesus-loving, Bible-teaching, and Spirit-filled ministries. Our sending church, Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara, was founded in 1978 and continues to embody this heritage today.

In 2020 amidst the backdrop of a global pandemic, a divine appointment brought together individuals from Calvary Chapel Palos Verdes and Life on the Hill, a local church that had faithfully ministered to the surrounding community for a decade. Calvary Chapel Palos Verdes’ vision was serve the peninsula through making Jesus known and being known by him, especially in this unprecedented time of uncertainty. Following their introduction, God’s perfect timing and purpose were soon revealed to everyone through heartfelt prayer and the Spirit's prompting. Both groups discovered how God was weaving their paths together for a greater mission, and this led to a step of faith to merge. Once the union was finalized, official services launched in the fall of that same year.

Ultimately, our story is about more than a group of people united by a shared love for Jesus - it is a testimony of God’s enduring love and faithfulness. We remain in awe of his grace and mercy and are forever grateful for the journey he has led us on. To him be all the praise and glory as his-story continues to unfold!
